Summer ONLINE courses are completed online, with all assignments completed independently by students & submitted according to a class assignment calendar. These courses require students to be highly-independent learners. In accordance with the WVUSD requirement for receiving credit for online classes, students will be required to attend 1 weekly online meeting / instructional session (60 minutes) with their instructor, during each week of the 6-week program. Instructors will provide options during the week to fulfill this requirement.
10 Credit or "Full Year" Courses run for 6 weeks.
5 Credit or "Semester" Courses run for the first 3 weeks of summer, with the exception of Health Online course, which runs the full 6 weeks.

Common Questions about our summer courses:
Question: I am an incoming 9th grade student, are there classes that are best for me?
Answer: 8th grade students are often looking to get a head start on their Freshman year. Students who are considering advancing into IB pathways or who are planning to take AP courses while at WHS will often take World History Honors or Biology Honors. These courses help students accomplish an Honors levels course in summer and open up space in their schedule for 9th grade, allowing room for athletics or electives. A year long Visual Performing Arts class is also a popular option as it is required for graduation / college applications. Our online Photography course helps students have a successful start to their 9th grade year in an course that is fun and relevant. The online option allows students the flexibility of completing assignments from home, while on vacation, or when participating in extracurricular events. Finally, on campus Health / Ethnic Studies or online health are popular options as they help students complete a required course.
Question: Can I take more than one course?
Answer: Yes. Please refer to our brochure for details. A student can take a 10 credit / year long course and add on either 5 credits of Health (a required course for graduation) or 10 credits of Physical Education. These are the two exceptions to the policy which limits the number of credits students can take in summer.
Question: Is PE in summer right for me?
Answer: Students take online PE for a variety of reasons in summer. Some do not feel it fits in their 4 year plan based on the pathway they choose and their personal goals. Others are hesitant to participate in the general course offered during the school year due to health or personal reasons. These students are able to use our course to complete up to a year of PE during the summer session through a combination of activity logs and brief assignments. PE is available for all grades.
